POSITION DESCRIPTION <br />PUBLIC WORKS APPRENTICE <br /> <br /> 3 <br />3. Parks Department <br /> <br />a. Performs duties as assigned in parks. <br /> <br />b. Performs grass mowing, boulevard mowing, grass trimming, tree trimming, weed <br />removal, irrigation repair, seeding, sodding, fertilizing, and any other tasks as <br />assigned. <br /> <br />4. Performs maintenance and repairs needed. <br /> <br />a. May perform building maintenance and repair for any City facility such as <br />painting, carpentry, and minor plumbing. <br /> <br />b. Maintains, repairs, and operates all City equipment including but not limited to <br />four-wheel drive pickups with plows, single-axle trucks, air compressors, <br />generators, mowers, tractors with attachments, skidsteer, and tools. <br /> <br />5. May earn the opportunity to be on-call on a rotating stand-by basis to respond to <br />emergency maintenance situations on holidays and weekends and to respond to <br />emergency maintenance situations outside of normal working hours. Employee must <br />respond in accordance with departmental call-out procedures. Employee must develop <br />the skills necessary to be able to respond to emergencies and on-call duty must be <br />approved by Public Works Director. <br /> <br />6. Is polite, friendly, and exhibits good communication skills when dealing with the public, <br />contractors, fellow employees, etc. <br /> <br />7. Treats everyone with respect. Does not use rude or abusive language or behavior towards <br />any residents or fellow employees. <br /> <br />8. Regular attendance is considered an essential function of this position. <br /> <br />9. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned in relation to the operation of the <br />City as a whole. <br /> <br /> <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />High School diploma or G.E.D. <br /> <br />Ability to safely lift heavy objects in excess of 50 lbs., walk and stand for long periods of time, <br />and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse conditions. <br /> <br />Ability to communicate orally and in writing. <br /> <br />Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. <br /> <br />Ability to take initiative and carry out tasks independently of others.
