10062 Flanders Court NE – Blaine, MN 55449 – (763) 780-0450 fax (763) 780-0452

Z:\PROJ\120203E - 2017 Street Improvements\0071\Memo-100617-CC (Resident Reimbursements).doc

Memo

TO: Mayor Keis & Members of the City Council

FROM: Lee Elfering, City Engineer

DATE: October 6, 2017

RE: Driveway, Sod, Irrigation Reimbursements
2017 Street Improvements

In conjunction with the City’s street improvements project there were Property Owners
that desired to have their entire driveway improved at this time due to the construction
impacts. Instead of having a seam between the driveway work required for the project
and the remainder of the private driveway it was the most efficient to have the entire
driveway paved by the Property Owner’s private driveway contractor. As in the past
these Property Owners were told that the City would provide reimbursement based on
our unit contract prices for the paving of the portion of the driveway that we affected with
the project.

This year there were also Property Owners that desired to have sod installed for the
boulevard restoration instead of by the hydroseeding and mulch that was bid. These
residents were told that if they wanted to sod their properties it would need to be done
outside the contract and that we would provide a credit reimbursement to them based on
our unit contract price for the seeding. One Property Owner also wanted to have their
sprinkler system repaired by their lawn service company, the repair quote was
approximately equal to the bid item and we are recommending reimbursement of that
cost as well. A summary of the reimbursements recommended on the project are as
follows.

Driveway Sod Irrigation Total
39 Labore Road $267.00 $267.00
113 Rose Place $70.00 $70.00
145 Rose Place $423.00 $423.00
146 Rose Place $1,044.63 $278.00 $385.00 $1,707.63
2601 Lake Shore $120.00 $120.00
Address
Reimbursement

Staff is recommending providing a reimbursement to the Property Owners that
completed private driveway, sod restoration, and/or irrigation work in conjunction with
the project equal to the amount saved by the City as shown in the above table. The total
amount of the reimbursements recommended for approval is $2,587.63. If you have any
questions please feel free to call me at 763-780-0450 Ext. 3.
