I understand that according to the City’s municipal code
2501.030 my four absences within one calendar year had created a vacancy. I would like to take the
opportunity to provide an explanation of my absences and also my engagement with the Parks &
Recreation Commission despite these absences.
Reasons for Absences
(all communicated to city staff and commission members in advance of meetings)
March 2: I had been sick with the flu since February 22 and did not recover till Sunday May 5.
July 6: This was the only week I could schedule a vacation for the entire year to minimize missing
work days and professional activities. To be honest, I was surprised the rest of the commission was
around to meet!
Aug 2: This was a rescheduled day that didn’t fit my calendar because of prior work-related out-
of-town commitment. I had been able to attend two other rescheduled days (May 9 and June 7) but
just couldn’t make this one.
Oct 5: I had to leave that evening for a work-related convening in Washington DC on Oct 6 that
started at 7:30am. Unfortunately, I could not find a later flight to make the Park & Rec meeting.

Other Engagement Activities
February 13 from 4pm to 7pm: I participated in the Little Canada Goal Setting Session
March 7 from 5:45pm to 8:30pm: I attended as an observer the last couple of interviews for the
Park & Rec/Community Services Manager position
7
