STAFF REPORT

TO: Parks & Recreation Commission

FROM: Bryce Shearen, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager

DATE: October 27, 2017
RE: Summary of Individual Listening Sessions

Attached is the summary of the Confidential Listening Sessions with SEH that the City Council,
Parks and Recreation Commission and city staff had participated in. At the last meeting, the
Commission had requested a summary to help provide direction on moving forward with certain
projects.

One of the requests from SEH was how they should proceed with the destination park idea at
Pioneer Park. After reading the comments from the summary, it seems there is a consensus that a
destination park is not something that has a high level of interest. A common theme that staff is
hearing from the Commission is that a bigger, upgraded, and more unique playground that serves
Little Canada residents, but could also bring others in from surrounding communities is something
that would be more beneficial for that space.

Staff is looking for discussion and direction from the commission on Pioneer Park and if an
improved playground is what should be pursued at this time.
