STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council

FROM: Bryce Shearen, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager

DATE: November 3, 2017

RE: Replacement of Window Frames, Windows, and Doors at Demont Ice Rink Shelter

This item was presented to the Council at the September 28, 2016 Council Meeting. At that time, it
was recommended by staff to hold off on the replacement project until further evaluation could be
done on the usage of the building. Since that time, staff recorded the attendance of the 2016-2017 ice
season and found that the Demont Rink was averaging 11.5 skaters per day. One of the rink attendants
said that the utilization has increased from the previous years and he had some discussions with the
users who were supportive of keeping the rink open in the future. Staff feels that the repairs are
warranted and should be done.

The City budgeted $13,000 for the replacement of the window frames, windows, and doors at the
Demont Ice Rink shelter. The windows are foggy and the window frames and doors are rusting. Three
companies were asked for updated quotes on the repairs. Staff has received one quote so far from
Capital City Glass for $14,685, and will have the additional quotes before the Council meeting.
