WORKSHOP MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br /> <br />December 7th, 2017 <br /> <br /> Chair Dave Miller called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and the following <br />members of the commission were present: <br /> <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT: Ms. Sharen Darling <br /> Mr. Ron Horwath <br /> Mr. Dave Miller <br /> Mr. Tom Ray <br /> Mr. Peter Schletty <br /> Ms. Patti Sullivan <br /> <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Ms. Rose Chu <br /> <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Bryce Shearen, Parks and Recreation <br />Community Services Manager <br /> Mr. Joel Hanson, City Administrator <br /> Mr. Derek Anderson, Parks Maintenance <br /> Supervisor <br /> Mr. Tom Fischer, City Council Member <br /> Mr. Bob Kost, SEH Landscape Architect <br /> Ms. Anna Springer, SEH Landscape Arc. <br /> Ms. Anna Leibel, Recording Secretary <br /> <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager stated this workshop would continue <br />the discussion of the theme and vision for Pioneer Park and the other parks <br />throughout the City. Kost asked the Commission to review the updated <br />visioning statements and draft goals and policies to help focus the Pioneer <br />Park discussion. Springer presented information on Pioneer Park and the <br />draft needs assessment to the Commission, for their review and focus for <br />the Pioneer Park discussion. She explained the volleyball court and turf <br />areas are underutilized in Pioneer Park, the playground is in need of <br />replacement, and the upstairs shelter at Pioneer was underutilized, and not <br />ADA compliant. She indicated these items showed the Park had untapped <br />potential that could be developed. <br /> <br />Springer stated that overall the parks are tidy, and in good condition. Kost <br />stated the uniformity and color in park signage added to the overall park <br />character. Springer stated that through a needs assessment, based on <br />National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) standards, the City <br />PARK THEME <br />DISCUSSION
