<br /> <br /> STAFF REPORT <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />TO: Planning Commission Members <br /> <br />FROM: Heidi Heller, City Clerk <br /> <br />DATE: January 5, 2018 <br /> <br />RE: Land Use Training <br /> <br />The City has the League of Minnesota Cities as their insurance provider. The League offers a <br />discount to cities if certain members of staff, majority of the elected officials, the Planning <br />Commission Chair and one other Commissioner complete an on-line training. The City will <br />cover the cost of the training, and it can be done at your own pace. All of the Commissioners are <br />encouraged to take the training, and there are more on-line trainings available for those <br />interested. Only course LU501 Land Use Basics: Grasping the Ground Rules is required to <br />qualify for the incentive. <br /> <br />The training for Bill and one other Commissioner must be completed as soon as possible. Please <br />let me know asap if you want to participate and I will complete the registration for you. <br /> <br />Below is information about the trainings or here is the online link: <br />https://www.lmc.org/page/1/land-use-lc.jsp <br /> <br />Land Use Series <br />This is a City Learning Point online training series <br />People have strong feelings about their property rights and the character of their neighborhoods. <br />When conflicts occur, cities often get caught in the middle. This first course in the Land Use <br />Series will help you understand cities’ roles and authority in land use regulation to more <br />effectively navigate controversial situations. <br /> <br />Intended audience: <br />• Elected city officials and appointed planning commission members. <br />• City employees who have responsibilities in land use regulation. <br /> <br />Each person will access and complete the course individually. Upon receiving log-in credentials, <br />registrants may access the courses online at any time and go at their own pace. <br /> <br />Incentive: An LMCIT Land Use Incentive is available to cities that meet certain training <br />participation requirements.
