The purpose of this evening's workshop is to explore the future of the llARE
PROGRAM program. The City Administrator reported that 3 to 4 years ago discussion started
relative to the future of DA12E when its effectiveness was questioned given that it is
presented only at the elementary school level. It is felt that there is the need to
expand into the middle school level to reinforce ev'lier teachings. If that is not
possible, then continuing with just the elementary program may not be justified.
The City Administrator reported that The City of Roseville has eliminated its funding
of DARE and the Roseville School District has reallocated their dollars to other
prevention programs for Che schools within the boundaries of the City of Roseville.
The Administrator also pointed out that the creators of the program, DARE America,
have determined that the current program is ineffective and are in the process of
revamping it.
