MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION WORKSHOP <br />February 22, 2018 <br />the types of parks in the plan, Springer stated there would be definitions in <br />another section of the chapter. <br /> <br />In the Old Fire Hall section, the Commission wanted to add plans to study <br />the lighting at the skate park, add a grinding rail, study the useful life of <br />the current equipment, and include that the Old Fire Hall was undergoing <br />a facelift. <br /> <br />In the Firefighter Memorial Trail section, the Commission suggested <br />adding lighting, possibly solar lighting. Councilman Fischer stated adding <br />lighting would mean changing the park hours as well. The Commission <br />decided not to add lighting. <br /> <br />In the Gervais Lake Beach section, the Commission discussed a boat <br />launch/access for vehicles in the winter. It was mentioned that the County <br />owned the beach and the City would need to talk with them to make any <br />changes. <br /> <br />In the Gervais Mill Park section, the Commission discussed their number <br />one priority to update the gardening area and add a drinking fountain. The <br />Commission also discussed the crosswalk at the trail along Noel Drive, <br />where they would like to improve safety measures. The City <br />Administrator mentioned the Commission had discussed completing the <br />sidewalk which now ended at City Hall. The last segment from City Hall <br />to Gervais Mill Park was very expensive due to the retaining wall and fire <br />hydrant. Horwath suggested the sidewalk be reprioritized based on use. <br /> <br />The Commission reviewed the descriptions for Little Canada Elementary <br />School, Pioneer Park, Nadeau Park, Rondeau Park, Roseville Area Middle <br />School, and Spooner Park. <br /> <br />In the Thunder Bay Park section, the Commission discussed implementing <br />a pollinator initiative under the powerlines because Xcel cut all of the trees <br />out of the area due to federal law. The City Administrator stated there <br />should be discussion of extending the Thunder Bay Trail when the Heinel <br />Property develops. The Commission agreed. <br /> <br />In the Veteran’s Memorial Park section, the Commission discussed buying <br />the two remaining properties east of the Memorial. The Commission asked <br />for ideas for the future use of the space. The Commission also discussed <br />planting a pollinator garden or pollinator plants in the park. <br /> <br />In the Waterworks Trail section, the Commission discussed a pedestrian <br />bridge over 35E and 694, and partnering with St. Paul to remove <br />buckthorn. <br />
