CHAPTER 2 28 <br />Trails & Connectivity <br />Existing Conditions <br />Overall, Little Canada has a number of key pedestrian and bicycle <br />connections made throughout the City, but has a number of gaps that <br />preclude the system from being complete. <br />Strengths of the system include: <br />• A strong backbone of linear parks and park trails, which include the <br />Water Works Right-of-Way, Firefighters Historical Trail, Westwind <br />and Thunderbay Parks/Power Line Trail, and paved trail loops <br />within Spooner and Pioneeer Parks and other community and <br />neighborhood parks <br />• Off-road trails on County Road C and Jackson Street <br />• Natural surface trail loops at Gervais Mill Park <br />Needs <br />Trail connections and safe walking and <br />biking conditions came up repeatedly <br />as top priorities among participants <br />during the public engagement phase <br />of the planning process. The City <br />has identified opportunities to make <br />connections, and is continually adding <br />sidewalks, trails, and safe crossings as <br />opportunities arise. <br />Some collector streets that carry <br />higher volumes of traffic do not have <br />dedicated facilities for pedestrians and <br />bicycles, but do provide wide, paved <br />shoulders.
