The following pages contain four components of <br />the plan; mission and vision statements, goals, <br />policies, and recommendations. <br />The vision statements were revisited and updated <br />as part of the system master plan update in <br />2017, and will serve as a guide for the next 20 <br />years. They underpin the goals for the system and <br />establish and communicate a clear purpose for the <br />City and its residents. <br />Goals are broad statements that describe a <br />desired outcome and are often long-term. <br />Policies describe the general way in which <br />programs and activities are conducted to achieve <br />a goal, and reflect underlying values or principles. <br />Policies can be place-specific. <br />VISION <br />LITTLE CANADA’S PARK SYSTEM... <br />1. Helps to form the character of the community- it is a park system that is essential to the quality <br />of life of its residents. <br />2. Provides a comprehensive system of trails, bikeways and walkways that connect the <br />community within, as well as, to the adjacent region. <br />3. Serves the diverse needs of all residents of the community for both active and passive <br />recreation. <br />4. Preserves and strengthens the historic, cultural, and natural resources of the community. <br />5. Is sustainable –it is a park system that supports an ecologically, socially and economically <br />healthy community. <br />6. Supports the principles of active living and recognizes that parks, recreation, and trails are key <br />components of an active and healthy lifestyle. <br />Recommendations include actions or practices that <br />support policy statements and may identify the <br />“who, what, when, where, and how” of achieving <br />a goal or policy. <br />Within this document goals, policies, and <br />recommendations are organized like this: <br />1.
