1.2Ensure access to public green space within a 10 minute walk <br />(1/2 mile) from residents’ homes <br />1.2.1Connect the neighborhood North of 694 to the Water <br />Works Right-of-Way with the addition of a pedestrian <br />bridge over 694 <br />1.3Continue to work with partner agencies to ensure future access <br />to parks and facilities <br />1.3.1Continue to recognize that school sites function as <br />neighborhood parks when they include a playground <br />and facilities that are routinely accessible to residents, and <br />continue to nurture the relationships with St. John’s School <br />and the Roseville Area School District to provide residents <br />access to indoor gym space and other facilities <br />1.3.2Continue to work with Saint Paul Regional Water Services <br />to: <br /> »Ensure access to the Water Works Right-of-Way, <br />Firebarns Skate Park and the Firefighters Historical Trail <br /> »Facilitate future trail connections over I35E, 694, and <br />Highway 36 that may use its right-of-way <br />1.3.3Continue to work with Ramsey County to provide local <br />access to existing and future parks and facilities <br />1.3.4Continue to work with Xcel Energy to maximize the use of <br />its right-of-ways where appropriate, including Thunderbay <br />& Westwinds Park <br />2. Provide parks that are welcoming and supportive of people <br />of diverse age, race, ethnicity, ability, gender, and economic <br />status <br />2.1Engage the community around park design and maintenance <br />2.1.1Create and implement a process for gathering public and/ <br />or neighborhood input on park design when updating or <br />developing parks <br />2.1.2Encourage groups to take an active role in managing park <br />maintenance and enhancements, supporting the creation <br />of friends groups or adopt-a-park programs for specific <br />parks <br />Mini parks or pocket parks can provide <br />access to green space or specific facilities <br />where land availability is limited <br />The facilities at Little Canada Elementary, <br />including the Gaga ball court, are available <br />for public use outside of school hours <br />CITY OF LITTLE CANADA - PARK SYSTEM MASTER PLAN39
