STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of the City Council

FROM: Bryce Shearen, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager

DATE: July 6, 2018

RE: Approval of Payments from Veterans Memorial Fund

As you may recall, the City Council approved the Veterans Memorial Donation Policy, and within
that policy, it states the “Allocation of funds will be reviewed and recommended to the City Council
by the Parks & Recreation Commission before expenditure.” There are a couple outstanding items
from the project that are being completed and those invoices will need to be paid. These items
include an interpretive sign and sponsor and veteran pavers.
The interpretive sign that will be installed at the Veterans Memorial Park describes the overall
project as a whole. This sign was part of the original project scope and the committee approved the
language for the sign. The sign is now complete and will be installed within the next couple of
weeks. The cost of this sign is $617.90 from Advantage Sign, which is a local Little Canada
business.
Two (2) - 12”x12” sponsor pavers and four (4) - 4”x 8” veteran pavers are currently being engraved
at Rivard Stone (they completed the engraving on all of the other pavers at the Veterans Memorial
Park). These pavers are expected to be completed in the next couple weeks and will then be
installed by staff. The cost of the engraving is $160.00.
At the June 7, 2018 Parks & Recreation Commission meeting, the Commission reviewed the
expenses and recommended approval of the above expenditures.
Staff recommends the City Council approve the expenditures from the Veterans Memorial
Fund in the amounts of $617.90 to Advantage Sign for the interpretive sign, and $160.00 to
Rivard Stone for the engraving of six pavers.
