TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council
FROM: Bill Dircks, Public Works Director

DATE: July 11, 2018

RE: Neighborhood Watch Sign Order

The previous City Administrator had been working with the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office and the
other contract cities on updating the Neighborhood Watch Signs for the active blocks in the City. They
finalized a design and then sent out the information to the contract cities in late-June. It must have
been lost in the transition so Randy Gustafson, the Crime Prevention Coordinator, sent me the
information today. The order was supposed to be placed with Advanced Graphix by June 27. We are
late for that date but we can still get the same pricing for the signs if we get the order in this week.
The price per sign is $54.40. The Sheriff’s Office sent a spreadsheet showing the number of active
neighborhood watch groups in Little Canada. The total number of signs required for those blocks is
15. They also sent a list of active Night to Unite blocks and suggested they are potential candidates for
signs in the future. There are 10 additional blocks on that list and some may require multiple signs.
There may also be other groups that form in the near future as well and it may be advantageous to
purchase signs at the current price point.
Mr. Gustafson did mention that the total number of signs requested by the contract cities was less than
originally expected. He said Advanced Graphix may not get the same price for the blank metal sign
sheets if the total sign count is less than the 500 originally expected. Advanced Graphix said there
may be a slight increase in the price if that is the case. Mr. Gustafson thought it would be about $3 per
sign at the most.
Staff recommends purchasing 35 Neighborhood Watch signs from Advanced Graphix at a price of
$54.40 - $57.40 per sign. The total cost will be $1904 - $2009.

54
