STAFF REPORT
TO: Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM: Bryce Shearen, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager
DATE: November 30, 2018
RE: Spooner Park Playground Update
Staff continues to work on the Spooner Park playground project making sure that it is ready to go
in the spring of 2019. In addition, staff has been keeping the Little Canada Recreation
Association (LCRA) updated on the project progress as well. The LCRA is excited about the
new playground and is interested in ways to enhance the project for the community. They had
talked about ways to enhance the playground and the addition of Poured in Place (PIP) rubber
was something they thought would be a great feature.
Staff is working on getting the costs associated with PIP surface to present to the LCRA on how
much a fully PIP surface would cost versus a partial PIP surface. Wood-fiber was budgeted for
this playground (which is ADA compliant), but the PIP surface would be a great enhancement
and is not something that is found at nearby playgrounds.
ATTACHMENTS:
•Spooner Park Playground Drawing provided by Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground
