MINUTES OF THE WORKSHOP MEETING CITY COUNCIL LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA JANUARY 9, 2019 Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a workshop meeting of the City Council of Little Canada, Minnesota was convened on the 9th day of January, 2019 in the Conference Room of the City Center located at 515 Little Canada Road in said City. Mayor John Keis called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and the following members of the City Council were present at roll call: CITY COUNCIL: ABSENT: ALSO PRESENT: Mayor Council Member Council Member Council Member Council Member City Administrator City Clerk Mr. John Keis Mr. Tom Fischer Mr. Rick Montour Mr. Christian Torkelson Mr. Mike McGraw Mr. Chris Heineman Ms. Heidi Heller Mayor Keis stated that the purpose of this evening's workshop is to discuss the hiring process for a new finance director. FINANCE The City Administrator reported that 14 applications were received for the DIRECTOR finance director position and staff has chosen six applicants to interview. He HIRING PROCESS explained that there is the opportunity to use our auditing firm, Clifton Larson Allen (CLA) for interim and transition assistance or specific duties as needed. He stated that he is interested in using CLA in the interim. He noted that he is not looking to use them on a permanent basis, but rather for a few months until the new hire is in place. They would not be able to continue as our auditor if they were our permanent finance director. Keis stated he would prefer to have the finance director position be an employee rather than a contractor since the number of city staff is already limited. Montour stated that he feels it is important. to have either another finance director or someone from the auditor's office be part of the second interview process.
