MINUTES OF THE WORKSHOP MEETING <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />JANUARY 9, 2019 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a workshop meeting of the City Council <br />of Little Canada, Minnesota was convened on the 9th day of January, 2019 in the <br />Conference Room of the City Center located at 515 Little Canada Road in said <br />City. <br />Mayor John Keis called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and the following <br />members of the City Council were present at roll call: <br />CITY COUNCIL: <br />ABSENT: <br />ALSO PRESENT: <br />Mayor <br />Council Member <br />Council Member <br />Council Member <br />Council Member <br />City Administrator <br />City Clerk <br />Mr. John Keis <br />Mr. Tom Fischer <br />Mr. Rick Montour <br />Mr. Christian Torkelson <br />Mr. Mike McGraw <br />Mr. Chris Heineman <br />Ms. Heidi Heller <br />Mayor Keis stated that the purpose of this evening's workshop is to discuss the <br />hiring process for a new finance director. <br />FINANCE The City Administrator reported that 14 applications were received for the <br />DIRECTOR finance director position and staff has chosen six applicants to interview. He <br />HIRING PROCESS explained that there is the opportunity to use our auditing firm, Clifton Larson <br />Allen (CLA) for interim and transition assistance or specific duties as needed. <br />He stated that he is interested in using CLA in the interim. He noted that he is <br />not looking to use them on a permanent basis, but rather for a few months until <br />the new hire is in place. They would not be able to continue as our auditor if <br />they were our permanent finance director. Keis stated he would prefer to have <br />the finance director position be an employee rather than a contractor since the <br />number of city staff is already limited. <br />Montour stated that he feels it is important. to have either another finance <br />director or someone from the auditor's office be part of the second interview <br />process. <br />
