<br /> <br /> STAFF REPORT <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council <br /> <br />FROM: Chris Heineman, City Administrator <br /> <br />DATE: January 23, 2019 <br /> RE: Call for a Special Meeting on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM for <br />Urban Land Institute - Navigating Your Competitive Future Workshop. <br />BACKGROUND: <br /> <br />The Urban Land Institute (ULI) is a nonprofit research and education organization with over 40,000 <br />members worldwide serving both public and private land use and real estate development <br />organizations. The ULI provides resources and advisory services on best practices across a broad range <br />of development topics. Staff has been in communication with representatives from the Minnesota <br />branch of the Urban Land Institute (ULI MN). As a result of this discussion, a joint workshop between <br />the City Council and Planning Commission has been scheduled for Wednesday, February 27 from <br />5:00-7:00 pm. The free workshop entitled ‘Navigating your Competitive Future’ will be focused on <br />local demographic issues and development opportunities in Little Canada. <br /> <br />Navigating Your Competitive Future (“NCF”) is a two-hour interactive workshop with policy leaders <br />and volunteer real estate professionals to focus on the current challenges of development and <br />redevelopment. NCF is designed to foster a meaningful dialogue among the public and private sectors <br />to strengthen a mutual understanding of today’s economic reality, market preferences, and <br />demographic shifts. Public officials will better understand the importance of effective partnerships and <br />learn strategies to position your community to be competitive and resilient, and to attract the best <br />quality development. Additional details are attached for your information. <br /> <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Call for Joint City Council / Planning Commission Meeting on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, from <br />5:00 – 7:00 PM for Urban Land Institute Navigating Your Competitive Future Workshop.
