His priority is the completion of the North/South Trail connection, which includes
our #4 priority trail connecting from the Middle School to the Trout Brook Trail south of
Highway 36. He distributed a regional map from the Metropolitan Council that illustrated the
location of the Trout Brook Trail.
Borens stated that Ramsey County now has a new staff member to assist their commission.
He stated there has been an increase of bikers recently because of the increase of gas prices.
There are two types of bikers- recreational and commuters. He stated one of his goals is to see
the bike commuters using the road shoulders instead of the sidewalks. He would like to see a
distinction between the bike trails and the walk trails, keeping bikers off the walking trails as
a death had recently occurred of a walker by a biker.
Sanders reported that the specifications projected on the Trillium Site Concept Plan for the Rice
Street improvement was to include a five foot shoulder on both sides of the street for bikers.
