Honorable Mayor and
Members of the City Council
City of Little Canada
Page 2

SCHEDULE OF FINDINGS AND RESPONSES

2018-001

Type of Finding: Minnesota Legal Compliance Finding

Criteria: Minnesota Statute §345.38, requires that any unclaimed property held for more than three
years be reported and delivered to the state.

Condition/Context: We noted that the City had one check on the outstanding checks listing which
were greater than three years old and had not been properly turned over to the state.

Effect: The City did not properly remit old, outstanding checks to the state and was not in compliance
with statutes governing unclaimed property.

Cause: The failure to remit the check was an oversight by City management as in the past all
unclaimed property has been properly and timely remitted.

Recommendation: We recommend the City review its procedures to ensure that all unclaimed
property is remitted per state statutes.

Views of Management: Management agrees with the finding and recommendation and will implement
changes to ensure all unclaimed property is properly remitted to the state.
