MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP
OCTOBER 23, 2019
will write a paragraph in the Comprehensive Plan that states the City will
review their zoning codes.
Torkelson stated that he feels that it would be easy to hit the population
growth forecast by adding additional housing on Rice Street. He
explained that the type of apartment buildings that are being built now are
higher end, very nice properties. Mr. Weber stated that the Council should
also improve the quality of the R-2, Medium Density Residential zoning
district because it is antiquated and should be expanded on. He stated
there needs to be more of the middle density housing like townhomes or
even row houses. He stated that small lot housing would be a great use in
Little Canada. Torkelson stated that these type of small lot, pocket
neighborhoods are great for millennials and seniors.
The City Administrator reviewed the current existing land use map and
stated that it is very similar to the zoning map. He stated that staff has
updated this to include the existing land uses. He explained that the land
use map and the zoning snap are intended to be two different maps. He
stated that there were a number of current land uses that were not shown
and should be, such as the waterworks corridor. Mr. Weber stated he is
working to make the Comprehensive Plan more readable and easier to use.
There being no further business, the workshop was adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
AickMontour, Acting Mayor
Attest: `
Christopher Heineman, City Administrator
