MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />June 28, 2001 <br />PARK The Director stated that he has not heard who was selected as "Park Citizen of the Year." <br />CITI7EN Broten stated that Little Canada's nominee did not receive the award. Sackett Glaser stated <br />that all nominees are honored. <br />PROJECTS The Director reported on the following items: <br />UPDATE <br />• Rondeau Park -Grading bids will be sent out any day. The Engineers designed the <br />pond to maintain a 5-foot depth with a 7 % foot high level depth. However, the pond has <br />a 1-foot depth, 10 feet into the pond before it begins to slope downward. <br />• Water Works Trail -The Jackson Street connection has not been finished yet. The City <br />had to obtain permission from the Saint Paul Water Department to improve the property. <br />• Gervais Mill Park Enh•anee -The Public Works Director stated that a date will be <br />scheduled within the next few weeks for work to begin on this piaject. <br />• Pump House Restoration -The work is underway. The Public Works Director will <br />continue to monitor this project. <br />694/RICE The Director reported that the State of Minnesota will be reconstructing Che bridge at 694 & <br />BRIDGE Rice Street. As part of this project, they would like to form a task force involving the <br />affected cities. They recommended 1 council member, 2 planning commission members, and <br />2 citizens from Little Canada bo in this task force. However, Little Canada's City Council <br />felt that a member of the Parks & Recreation Commission should also serve. <br />Schabacker volunteered to serve. The Director stated that the task force will involve <br />approximately four meetings. <br />RECREATION The Director reported on the following items: <br />REPORT <br />The next youth registrations will take place on July 5 and 12 for the following activities: <br />Soccer League, Soccer Clinic, and Volleyball. He handed out a flyer on these activities. <br />The Director stated that the posts/chains in Spooner Park will be removed shortly. The <br />area will be restored prior to Canadian Days. <br />OTHER Horwath stated that there is a tree in her neighborhood with Dutch Elm disease. She <br />wondered if there was still a program to deal with it. The Director stated that he will report <br />the matter to the City's Tree Inspector. <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />
