MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 29, 2020 <br />HIRE OF The City Administrator explained that due to a reorganization of the city <br />COMMUNITY staffing structure, a Community Development Director/Planner position <br />DEVELOPMENT was created to serve as a staff liaison to the Planning Commission, work <br />DIRECTOR/PLANNER with other units of government, coordinate the development review <br />process, and lead the City's Community Development efforts. <br />He stated that a total of 15 applications were received for the position and <br />5 candidates were interviewed by three members of the staff leadership <br />team. The field was then narrowed to the top two candidates and the full <br />leadership team conducted the second round of interviews. <br />The City Administrator reported that both of the semi-finalists were highly <br />qualified and staff ultimately selected Corrin Wendell. He announced that <br />Corrin has nearly 14 years of planning and community development <br />experience and currently serves as the Sector Representative for Districts <br />11 and 12 at the Metropolitan Council. She has extensive experience with <br />all aspects of planning, including zoning administration and code <br />enforcement, zoning text amendments, zoning code and official zoning <br />map updates, site plan reviews, and several other areas related to <br />community and economic development. The City Administrator stated <br />that Ms. Wendell has accepted the Conditional Offer of Employment, and <br />her first day will be February 24, 2020. <br />McGraw introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2 020-1-16 — APPRO VE THE HIRE OF CORRIN <br />WENDELL AS COMMUNITYDEVELOPMENT <br />DIRECTORIPLANNER AS PROPOSED <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Montour. <br />Ayes (5). <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />APPROVE HIRE OF The Public Works Director reported that the City advertised for the Public <br />PUBLIC WORKS Works Apprentice position in early December and received seven <br />APPRENTICE applications for the position. He stated that staff interviewed two <br />applicants and unanimously chose Timothy Hoag for the position. <br />The Public Works Director explained that one of the strategic directions of <br />the City's 5-year strategic plan is creating operational efficiency, and part <br />of this direction was to conduct a comprehensive assessment on staff <br />capacity and identify areas of need and concern.
