MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 11, 2001
GOOSU Mr. Anderson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
CONTROL
RESOLUTION NO. 2001-7-152 - RECONSIDERING TIIE COUNCIL'S
PREVIOUS ACTION RELATIVE TO GOOb'E CONTROL. CONTRACT
WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) Anderson, Scalze, Montour, LaValle, Pahey.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
Fahey noted that the City's policy has been to pursue goose control when the
populations are at nuisance levets to try to keep geese to a manageable level.
Fahey indicated that he agreed with Council Member Anderson's suggestion to
reconsider since it does not appear that the numbers of geese in the City are at
nuisance level.
Anderson indicated that he supported a look at more scientific methods for
controlling the geese population that do not involve killing the adult geese and
somehow deter geese from coming back to their original nesting locations.
Given the fact that the population is low this year, Anderson felt the control
program should be suspended at this time with more research done into more
scientific methods than the U of M's round up.
Mr. Anderson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RF.SOLUTIONNO. 2001-7--15,3 -SUSPENDING TAE PURTIIER ROUND
UP OF GEESE DURING 2001 WITH TIIE UNDERSTANDING THAT
THE COUNCIL WILL.
