MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 23, 2000
RESOI. UTION NO. 2000-5-130 -CONTINUING THE PUBLIC
HEARING ON THE REZONING OF 433 LITTLE CANADA ROAD
FROM RB TO PUBLIC UNTIL THE JUNE 13, 2000 COUNCIL
MEETING PENDING ADDITIONAL, INFORMATION
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Pedersen.
Ayes (3) Fahey, Scalze, Pedersen.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
Fahey suggested that City staff put together a listing of the other RB
properties in the City so that the Council can consider the potential of
amending the RB District to allow schools by CUP. Scalze felt there was
reason to look at the Code amendment given the fact that this is how other
cities handle this matter. Fahey also asked for information from the City
of Roseville as to why the charter school did not locate in that City.
The City Administrator pointed out the process for an amendment to the
Zoning Code as well as CUP, noting that unless that process is initiated
within the next few days, it could not be considered until the July meeting
cycle..It was the consensus of the Council that the applicant would be
responsible for initiating the process, and the owners of 433 Little Canada
Road were instructed to contact City staff to discuss the procedures.
Pedersen asked about private schools offering computer training as an
example and what zoning districts they were allowed in. The City
Administrator pointed out that the issue here is that Family Academy is a
public school and City Code requires public schools to be located in the
Public Zoning District. The Administrator suggested that the City Planner
could lay out the options for the Council to consider relative to appropriate
Code modifications.
Fahey felt that the Public Zoning District was appropriate for a public
school.
REZONING OF Fahey opened the public hearing to consider the rezoning of the Jackson
JACKSON Street park property to Public. It was noted that both the Planning
STREET PARK Commission and the Park & Recreation Commission.have recommended
PROPERTY TO approval of the rezoning.
PUBLIC
There.was no one present from the general public wishing to comment on
this matter.
