MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
CITY COUNCIL
LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA
NOVEMBER 8, 2000
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meetin~ of the City
Council of Little Canada, Minnesota was held on the 81 I DAY OF
November, 2000 in the Council Chambers of the City Center located at
515 Little Canada Road in said City.
Mayor Michael I. Fahey called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. and the
following members of the City Council were present at roll call:
CITY COUNCIL: Mayor Mr. Michael I. Fahey
Council Member Mr. Jim LaValle
Council Member Mr. Steve Morelan
Council Member Mr. Bob Pedersen
Council Member Ms. Beverly Scalze
ALSO PRESENT: City Administrator Mr. Joel R. Hanson
City Attorney Mr. Thomas Sweeney
Public Works Dir. Mr. Greg Schroeder
Cable TV Producer Mr. Todd Holdman
Deputy Clerk Ms. Kathy Glanzer
PUBLIC Mayor Fahey pointed out that the Council just concluded a workshop
WORKS to review the Public Works Garage study. He asked the City
GARAGE Administrator if he had a recommended option at this point.
STUDY
The City Administrator indicated that he did not have a recommended
option, but felt that adding on to the existing garage was the least desirable
option. He noted that if the garage is added onto to meet the square
footage needs of Public Works, the City is still left with inadequate
overhead doors, storage space in the mezzanine area that is not workable,
and a metal roof which will need to be addressed within 5 to 10 years.
Morelan stated that by process of elimination, the City is left with the
options of constructing a new garage on a new site with the sale of the
existing Public Works Garage or demolition of the existing Garage and
constructing a new building on the existing site.
Jeff Oertel, Oertel Architects, indicated that from an efficiency standpoint,
it would be better to construct a new garage on a new site. He indicated
that two acres of property would be needed for a new Public Works
building and its storage needs. However, a larger site would be ideal.
