MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
August 3, 2000
CONCERTS Broten had a concern about the lights under the shelter. He felt during the last concert it
CONT'D seemed very dark and hard to see all of the concert members. Morelan conunented that the
fixtures are in place and this last concert had a larger than normal size band and that could
have been the problem for seeing some of the further back members. Morelan said that this
has not been an issue in the past, but the city would look into it further.
JACKSON Sanders brought in the preliminary cost of the Jackson Street Park (refer to handout) and
STREET discussion was held about the initial figures.
PARK
Sanders believes in comparison to other parks built in the past this is a reasonable budgeted
figure to go by. The benches would be fixed to the ground on concrete pads, however the
tables would not.
The committee also discussed doing the project in phases. Establishing the initial grading,
trails, and basketball court first because they can all be placed on one bid. Then looking at
purchasing the play area second, with the gazebo being the last item.
Once the phase process has been established and the budget has been approved after the first
of the year the committee will invite the residents back in.
Gray moved tlzat the preliminary budget ~e approved.
Motion seconded by Schabacker.
Motion carried 7 - 0.
2001 Tina is putting together the figures and they should be ready to discuss aC the next meeting.
BUDGET The committee should be prepared and ready to discuss so the budget can be brought forward
to Council at the October meeting.
The committee would like to extend an invitation to Joel Hanson to attend the September
meeting.
DIRECTOR'S The Director reported on the following items:
REPORT
• Morelan reported that we are still accepting late registrations for soccer and volleyball.
Also, our soccer teams use Pioneer Park mainly on Saturdays due to the past lighting
issue, but now with the new lights Parks and Rec will be able to schedule games on a
variety of nights.
• Parks and Rec will be having a men's fall softball league on Wednesday nights.
