Billiard .congress of America ~j,, ~a-ct O~heet ~j~ _ Since America was introduced to billiards in 1565, the sport has grown { ,~ into one of the top three participation sports in the country. This Ot~-eg~rt ,~~~ year more than 46 million Americans will participate ;n the sport. f As part of the sport's growth, the National Billiard Council and the ~' Billiard Congress ofAmerica were established in 1948. Working in tandem they were to be the trade association for the billiard industry, and the unifying element of the game, to include players, propri- etors, retailers and manufacturers. In 1963 the assets and activities of the NBC were merged into the Billiard Congress ofAmerica. ~ ___ The mission of the BCA is to govern and/or promote the competition and ' recreational participation in the sport of pocket billiards in the United States ~"' ~ ~ ~~Y-.~: "` by establishing and disseminating information on game rules, instruction, f equipment specifications, and business operations. In cooperation with rec- ognized amateur, professional, and world governing organizations that promote and sanction touma- ment and league competition, the BCA shall strive to increase awareness and participation in the sport to all people. Individuals who serve on the BCA Board of Di- ~w's,.~ ~ h ab• r~ ~~ rectors come from all facets of the billiazds indus- ~Q.dr ~ ~ ~ ~[ G`~ . ~~ try: amateur and professional players, proprietors, retailers, manufacturers and media affiliates. Di- rectors are elected by the voting membership of the Billiazd Congress of America. They serve without salary or compensation for their expenses. They serve for their love of the sport, and their dedication to ~' the industry. Their responsibilities include defining the policies and direction of the BCA, so that the sport of billiards can continue to grow and prosper, working together as a whole and united industry. The Billiard Congress of.America is widely recog- ~ nized as the governing body of pool in North ".S~i' ~n Y~ ~`" B~~ America, and works closely with the World Pool- .. ,.x?: ,~: Fn~R+~t`...~vR1 ~'r -.~~ .,..:~~„,t^,-, Billiazd Association and the World Confederation of Billiard Sports to promote the sport of billiards throughout the world and to lobby the International Olympic Committee for acceptance of cue sports into Olympic events.
