05/23/2000 19:44 3125614403 MICHAEL R MELLOV PAGE 92 <br />J.VjEMORA,~TDUM <br />pate: October 2, 2000 <br />To: City of Little Canada Planning Commission Members <br />From: Michael sz_ Melloy <br />Coliseum Billiards, Inc. <br />The Marketplace <br />2900 Isles Streei <br />Little Canada, NIN 55113 <br />Re: Extension of Hours Request <br />Coliseum Billiards respectflrlly requests an extension ofits hours ofoperation fromthe current <br />closing time of midnight to a closing time o£2:00 a.m. in order to be competitive in the marketplace, <br />and especially to accommodate our planned tournaurent schedule, as described below. <br />Coliseum Billiards has scheduledrapid-fire 3-cushion billiard tournaments on Monday and <br />Thursday evenings, weekly amateur pool tournaments on Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons, <br />and the Mtmlesota 8-Ball League ou Tuesday evenings- Also, we will host Wednesday evening <br />beginner tournaments so that players of all skill levels can have the opportunity to compete in a <br />toutnameirt setting. <br />The rapid-fire billiard tournament format on Mondays and Thursdays is single elimination <br />beginning at 7:00 p.m. With anormal-sized field of competitors, tlae tournaments will conclude by <br />or before 2:00 a.m. Weekday evening pool toumamerrts will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a dwbie- <br />elimiaationformat, aisoconcluding by orbefore 2:00 am. The current midnight closing requirement <br />doesnot accomarodateeveningtouraaments, andwouldpreventColiseumBilliarclsfi'ompaxticipating <br />in our region's acclaimed tournamtuR roster. <br />The regular hours of operation for pool rooms in Minneapolis and the Twin Cities suburbs <br />is 2~1-hours; .Al's Billiards in Roseville is open until 2:00 a.m., Louie's Billiards in North St. Paul <br />nozmally closes at 2:00 a_m., and most other billiard rooms in Minmeapolis and the Twin Cities <br />suburbs are allowed to stay open 7A-hours a day, e.g., Shooters ua Burnsville, Fat Boys ira <br />Mmneapolis, Timmy's in Columbia Heights and Billiard Street Cafe in Fridley. Since Coliseum <br />Billiards beganoperatinginMay 2000, wehave become a family-orientedbilGazd roomwhereyoung <br />and old can play pool, billiards and snooker in a clean, spacious and secure setting. Coliseum <br />B illiards has not experienced any problems nor has it adversely impacted Little C anada or surrounding <br />communities.
