MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF
THE VILLAGE OF LITTLE CANADA
,~ ar ae # ~t ~
A apecia.l meeting of the Council of the Village of Lit-
tie Canada eras held on Tuesday, August 17, 1954, at the Little
Canada Fire Ha11, at 8:30 P.M. The roll being called, 'the follow-
ing members were presents
Louis V7. Melancon, Mayorp Roy P. Nadeau,
Clerk; Edward R. Loeffler, Carl Spooner,
,john M. Vitale, Trustees.
The mayor announced that this meeting was called for the
purpose of conferring with. the members of the Board of Supervisors
of the Town of New Canada about the division of a.sseta and property
of the town. This matter has been delayed from time to time since
last October when the village was organized and it appeared that it
is now possible to get the matter completely settled.
Before the meeting with the members of the New Canada Town
Board began, Mr. Don Roberts, a contractor a.nd developer, appeared
and advised the council that he wants the council to wait until he
can get things settled with the State Highway Department before he
finishes Gervais Creek Road, He then raised the question of why a
building permit was granted to Thomas Campanaro when the road had
not yet been finished, After considerable discussion and argument,
much of which was not pertinent to the question at hand, bor. Roberts
was asked gust what he had come to the council for and if it was
his intention to convey the impression that he doesn't want to do
anything aT, all about Gervais Cr®ek Road, Mr. Roberts hastened to
advise the council that he is not taking that position but that he
believes that someone should share with. him the 4$300.00 cost of com-
pleting the road which was the estimated oust by the village engin-
eer. He offered to pay 4$150.00. The council took the matter under
advisement and took no action.
The next business was the meeting with the Board of Super-
visors of th.e Town of New Canada, a.ll. of whom were present as well
as their treasurer and their clerk. All of the items of cash pro-
perty, both real and. personal, were reviewed in detail. A number of
questions concerning the legal aspects of the problem were asked of
and answered by Mr. Memmer. The two governing bodies finally approved
informally and without a motion the following division of propertyt
FIRST: Inasmuch as there was no free cash balance at
the time of the incorporation of the Village for the reason
that the floating indebtedness of the Toorn exceeded its cash,
the two governing bodies agreed that the deficit would be
shared. Balancing thin deficit off against the personal pro-
perty such as grader, truck, road equipment, etc., it wa.s
decided that the Town pay to the Village the sum of Two Hundred
Ninety-five Dollars (41+295.00).
