MINUTF..S OF SPECIAL MEETING <br />OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF <br />THE VILLAGE OF LITTLE CANADA <br />., ,. ;. <br />Pursuant to notice, a special meeting of the Council of the <br />Village of Little Canada was held on Tuesday, September ?_0, 1955 at <br />8;00 P.M, at the Little Canada Fire ]{a11. The following members were <br />present; <br />Louis PJ. Dllelancon, Mayor; Roy P. Nadeau, Clerk; <br />Edward. R. Loeffler, Carl Spooner, John M. Vitale, <br />Trustees. <br />The Mayor announced as the first order of business the peti- <br />tion of Lena Smith to vacate Vermont Avenue between Little Ca.r~da 12oad <br />and Round Lake. The Clerk pointed out to the Council that the pub- <br />lished newspaper notices for this hearing designated Oci:ober l.~.th as <br />the hearing date. <br />Upon motion by Nadeau, seconded by Spooner, it was <br />"RESOLVED, That this matter be dispensed with <br />now and conCinued until October ll.tkt as provided in <br />the noti<:e." <br />Ayes .. 5 Nays - 0 <br />I'he resolution was adopted. <br />Mayor Melancon then introduced the various members of the <br />Council to the audience and explained the reasons for having a hearing <br />on the question of establishing a liquor ordinance, Members of the <br />public present. were then advised to proceed with their statements. <br />Doug Warden, 501 E. Little Canada Road, asked some questions <br />about possible financial return that could he expected from either the <br />municipal or private ownership plans. 'these questions were answered. <br />IUr. Warden stated that he favored private ownership. <br />Arnold Olson, 2676 Lakeshore, made a statement regarding the <br />costs of establishing and operating a municipal store and pointed out <br />that he opposed municipal ovmership and favored the issuance o.f liquor <br />licenses to private operators. <br />Mr. J. J. Oman, 21E3L1_ (3urr Street, stated that Roseville had <br />run into the red with municipal liquor store operation operating on. <br />Dice Street and to the best of his knowledge the returns of the munici- <br />pal liquor stores in Roseville were far from satisfactory. He also stated <br />that he favored private ownership. <br />Mr. Ken 13elair, '707 Labore Road, aslted why we needed a meeting <br />when we were already wet. He then stated that he favored issuance of <br />liquor licenses to private, operators, <br />
