STAFF REPORT TO: FROM: DATE: RE: Parks & Recreation Commission Bryce Shearen, CPRP, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager May 7, 2020 Firefighters Historical Trail Sign ACTION REQUESTED Motion to approve the replacement of the Firefighters Memorial Trail sign with the design drawing as presented. BACKGROUND At the June 6, 2019, Parks & Recreation meeting, staff presented to the Commission the plans for an alternative trail entrance monument sign for the Firefighters Historical Trail. This trail sign is on Centerville Road, just north of the Little Canada Fire Department. The existing monument sign is currently in need of major repair/replacement. It was intended to replace the sign at the same time as the memorial construction. At that time, the trail sign that was presented to the Commission was a long curved sign made out of Corten steel that was designed as an extension of the memorial project. When the project went out for bids last fall, the bids that were received were much higher than anticipated. Since then, the scope of the project has been changed to be more cost-effective and was rebid this spring. The trail sign was changed from a long curved sign to a sign that is very similar to all park signage for consistency. The difference of this sign compared to the rest of the city park signs is that it is made out of Corten steel, which will still provide the consistent look of the city signage but will also flow with the new memorial. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the Parks and Recreation Commission approve the recommended design for the replacement of the Firefighters Memorial Trail sign.
