I-Innson
As you are aware, the City's Fire Inspection Depal•tment had been staffed with two pal•t-
time positions, a Fire Marshal and Deputy Fire Marshal. Upon retil•ement of Duane
Williams as Fire Marshal, Jim Lee has now assumed those duties. Given the demands on
this department and the efficiencies that I believe can be achieved in having a full-time
Fire Marshal, rather than two part-time positions, I am recommending that the Fire
Marshal position be made full-time.
The full-time Fire Marshal position was discussed at a workshop meeting a few weeks
ago, and the discussion was that consideration would be given to this as part of the 2009
Budget process. It would be my recommendation that the position become full-time
effective September 15, 2008. There is adequate funding in the 2008 Budget to cover the
additional personnel costs through the end of the year.
Recommended houl•ly salary is $23 for the balance of 2008. A 2009 Salary Scale will be
presented for this position as part of the 2009 Budget process. As provided for in our
Personnel Policy, benefits would begin on October 1, 2008.
Jim Lee is agreeable to continuing in the Fire Marshal position on a full-time basis.
