The applicant is seeking two
variances, one for height (to allow RV's to be stored outside, exceeding the 8 foot
storage height limitation), and another to avoid installing additional landscaping in front
of the screening fences.
With regard to the height of storage, the City adopted the currant ordinance, in part, to
ensure that while outdoor storage was allowed in the I-1 District, it would allowed in a
such a way that it would have the least visual impact possible. An exception was
written in for construction equipment, acknowledging that many current businesses in
the park would need this type of exception to continue operation, and that most
construction equipment was not able to be stored indoors. For the subject
property, it is clear that indoor service work on such vehicles would require this type of
access. Unless the City wishes to amend the ordinance to carve out an exception for
12
