sir-~ihc ~..assoa~T~s fuu>: nuufu Memorandum TO: Little Canada Mayor and City Council Members FROM: Lee Elfering, City Engineer DATE: September 19, 2008 RE: 2007 Street & Utility Reconstruction Change Order#4 Background During construction, field conditions and unforeseen items required staff to direct the Contractor to complete extra work outside the scope of the original contract. The additional work required included additional signage to ensure clearly marked routes to the businesses on Viking Drive, the installation of a bollard at the Old Fire Hall parking lot to protect the new improvements, repair of washout areas and construction of a flume for future erosion protection, and removal of recycled class 5 from the Viking Drive shoulder area. The recycled class 5 from the Viking Drive shoulder area came from the cold in-place recycled section which the County completed for the City. The road was narrowed in this area and the recycled material was left in place to protect the shoulders from erosion until the final wear was placed in 2008 and the boulevards were graded to match the final bituminous mat elevation, Summary and Recommendations The Contractor completed the work outlined above as directed by the Engineer in completion of the project. There was no means for compensation of this work provided in the original contract and all cost for this work is outlined in Change Order #4. These costs have been reviewed by our Inspectors and represent the actual time and cost of the work based on our records and totals $8,765.65. Based on the information above, we would recommend that the City Council approve payment of Change Order 1i4.
