Hanson
In considering the adoption of the updated Zoning Code, staff would ask the Council to
consider the following:
The addition of a clause requiring that any recreational vehicle stored on a
property be owned by the property owner. The code allows a property owner to
store recreational vehicles on their property in the driveway, side yard, and the
rear yard (not in the required setback). There is no regulation as to the ownership
of the recreational vehicle. The City has received a couple of complaints about
this storage, specifically centered on the fact that the recreational vehicle was not
even owned by the property owner.
Another suggestion would be to limit the number of recreational vehicles that can
be stored outdoors on a property. While the City has not received any complaints
relative to numbers, without a specific limitation, staff feels it is only a matter of
time before we have a situation of this nature
Finally, the City has had people potentially interested in purchasing industrial
properties in order to have a location for a hobby, i.e. restoration of classic cars,
etc. This is technically not permitted under the Code. While staff does not feel
this is a problem, perhaps the City Planner should comment on including a
provision allowing this sort of use. We would recommend, however, that there be
no outdoor storage allowed in conjunction with the hobby use.
