Highlights of building improvements in the Capital Projects budget include:
• Proposed siding replacement at City Center (preliminary estimate of $50,000)
• Cover for mix at Public Works Building. The anticipated cost is approximately $10,000.

Administration
The City of Little Canada has traditionally required administrative employees to utilize their
private vehicles for inspection activities. While employees are reimbursed for their mileage
expenses, they are not readily identifiable as a City employee. This also creates additional
liability issues when conducting official city business in a private vehicle. Staff is
recommending that up to $23,000 be included in the 2020 Capital Projects budget for the
purchase of a small all-wheel drive SUV. The vehicle would be used primarily for rental
licensing and code enforcement inspections, but could also be utilized by other administrative
staff for meetings or conferences when needed.
Additional capital project expenditures in the Administration Department include standard
computer upgrades ($8,020) and replacement of the multi-function copier ($15,000).
Public Safety (Fire)
Public Safety has been separated into a new category in order to more clearly identify the capital
projects related to Public Safety. There are not any major projects proposed for 2020. As in
past, funds have been included to replace the furnace ($12,000) and air conditioner/ furnaces
($30,000). These funds will only be used if replacement is needed in 2020. The reserve line of
$41,910 is the amount that has been requested by the LCFD as part of the 2020 budget.

Parks & Recreation Department
The Parks & Recreation Commission has continued to be involved in the Capital Improvement
Projects (CIP) planning. The Commission sets a top three priorities for the year, which helps
staff work towards those goals. As we get into the final quarter of the year, the Commission will
be looking at the Parks & Recreation budget and will set their goals for 2020. The Parks Master
Plan is also being used as a guiding document to program Capital Projects. Many exciting
projects are scheduled for 2020 and beyond.
In addition to programmed projects, the City has the unique opportunity to add even more
enhancements to our parks system with donations from the Little Canada Recreation Association
(LCRA). Staff has met with the LCRA and has identified projects that fall within the LCRA’s
mission. These are projects that have had their initial support and that they would consider
funding. A list of those projects is below. If not funded by the LCRA, those projects would not
be going forward in 2020.
Potential projects funded by the LCRA in 2020:
• New rink boards at the Old Fire Hall (OFH) rink. The anticipated price for new rink
boards, fencing, concrete work, and installation is $102,400.
• Electronic scoreboard at Gilbertson Field. The anticipated price for the scoreboard and
installation materials is $12,550.
