1 <br />CONTRACT FOR FIRE PROTECTION <br />2020 <br />CITY OF LITTLE CANADA <br />RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA <br />WHEREAS, the City of Little Canada is authorized by law to provide fire <br />protection for all of the property in said City, and <br />WHEREAS, the Little Canada Fire Department, Incorporated, is a volunteer fire <br />department, operating as a non-profit association under the laws of the State of Minnesota <br />and owns certain fire equipment, trucks, etc., for fighting fires, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City of Little Canada and the Little Canada Fire <br />Department, Incorporated, hereinafter referred to as the City and the Fire Department, <br />respectively, in consideration of the following provisions and covenants, do hereby enter <br />into this contract and agreement on the day and date hereunto subscribed. <br />1.The City hereby engages the services of the Fire Department to answer <br />fire calls and fight fires, to generally to provide fire protection to public and private <br />property, within the City of Little Canada commencing January 1, 2020 and terminating <br />December 31, 2020. <br />2.The Fire Department agrees to answer all calls for service directed to it by <br />the public or Ramsey County Dispatch for assistance within the legal limits of the City <br />including those calls involving accidents with injury requiring emergency medical <br />responders. <br />3.The Fire Department will provide Awareness level services for hazardous <br />materials incidents. Hazardous materials services beyond Awareness level will be <br />provided by the State of Minnesota. <br />4.The City agrees to pay to the Fire Department for its services during the <br />period above specified, and the Fire Department agrees to accept for its services during <br />the said period. Payments shall be made on the following basis: <br />a. $383,148 shall be paid in quarterly installments. The City will issue the <br />first quarterly check immediately following the first City Council meeting of the <br />contract year. Subsequent quarterly payments will be issued immediately <br />following the Council meetings preceding April 1st, July 1st, and October 1st. <br />b. $31,930 or the “required contribution” as calculated pursuant to <br />statutory requirements for deficit retirement associated with the fire relief <br />association, whichever is greater, shall also be paid in quarterly installments for <br />Little Canada Fire Relief funding. This contribution will be increased on an <br />annual basis according to the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increase for <br />staff based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
