City of Little Canada 8-18 Water Supply Plan
51BConservation Objectives and Strategies – Key benchmark for DNR
This section establishes water conservation objectives and strategies for eight major areas of
water use.
52BObjective 1: Reduce Unaccounted (Non-Revenue) Water loss to Less than 10%
The Minnesota Rural Waters Association, the Metropolitan Council and the Department of
Natural Resources recommend that all water uses be metered. Metering can help identify high
use locations and times, along with leaks within buildings that have multiple meters.
It is difficult to quantify specific un-metered water use such as that associated with firefighting
and system flushing or system leaks. Typically, water suppliers subtract metered water use
from total water pumped to calculate unaccounted or non-revenue water loss.

TIs your five-year average (2005-2014) unaccounted Water Use in Table 2 higher than
10%?
Yes ☐ No ☒
53BWhat is your leak detection monitoring schedule? (e.g. monitor 1/3rd of the city lines per year)
We have our entire system checked for leaks every 2 or 3 yearTs.

TWhat is the date of your most recent water audit? __2-2016_____
TFrequency of water audits: T☒T yearly T☐T other (specify frequency) ________
TLeak detection and survey: T☐T every year T☒T every other year T☐T periodic as needed
TYear last leak detection survey completed: __2015_______

Complete Table 23 by adding the requested information regarding the number, types, testing
and maintenance of customer meters.
54BTable 8-22: Information about customer meters
Customer
Category
Number of
Customers
Number of
Metered
Connections
Number of
Automated
Meter
Readers
Meter testing
intervals
(years)
Average
age/meter
replacement
schedule
(years
Residential 2111 2111 2101 20 __5_ / __20-
30_
Irrigation
meters
89 89 89 10 __5_ / __10-
20_
Institutional 7 7 7 5 __5_ / _10-
20__
Commercial 409 409 409 5-20 __5_ / _10-
20__
Industrial 5 5 5 5 __5_ / __10-
20_
Public facilities 6 6 6 5-20 __5_ / _10-
20__
Other ___ / ___
TOTALS 2627 2627 2617 NA NA
