STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of the City Council

FROM: Bryce Shearen, CPRP, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager

DATE: November 18, 2020

RE: Pay Request for Firefighter Memorial Structural Steel Corten Sign

ACTION REQUESTED
Motion to approve pay request to JKP INC. in the amount of $26,980.00 with the Little Canada
Fire Department (LCFD) reimbursing the City for the full amount.

BACKGROUND:
The structural steel Corten sign and honorary member plaques have been installed at the
Firefighters Memorial by JKP INC and they are now requesting payment for $26,980.00. Mark
Kasma from Bolton & Menk is overseeing the engineering of the project and confirmed
satisfactory installation. JKP INC is also installing the City trail sign and they are anticipating
that sign will be installed yet this year depending on the weather. The remainder of the project is
under a separate contract with Albrecht Company and due to a delay from the sign manufacturer,
the final landscaping and restoration is anticipated to be completed in early spring of 2021. At
that time, staff will plan a ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony of the Little Canada
Firefighter Memorial.

BUDGETARY IMPACT
This project was budgeted for in City’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) with the understanding
that the Little Canada Fire Department will reimburse the City for all costs.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council approve the pay request to JKP INC in the amount of
$26,980 for the installation of the structural steel Corten sign and honorary plaques, and be
reimbursed from the Little Canada Fire Department for the same amount.
