STAFF REPORT
TO:Mayor Keis and Members of City Council
FROM:Chris Heineman, City Administrator
Heidi Heller, City Clerk
DATE:December 16, 2020
RE:Set 2021 Council Meetings & Workshops
ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED:
Motion to adopt 2021 City Council Meeting and Council Workshop Schedule.
BACKGROUND:
The City Council has traditionally met at 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each
month. Exceptions occur typically in November and December due to holidays.
All of the City Council meetings can occur on the regular second and fourth Wednesday in 2021
with the exception of November. Due to this, staff recommends the same November and
December meeting schedule that was used in 2020. There was one regular meeting on the 3rd
Wednesday in November and two meetings in December on the first and third Wednesdays. The
December meetings are each moved up a week since the November meeting is earlier. We will
likely stick to this schedule for at least the next few years until there are five Wednesdays in
October again - when that happens we can shift the November meetings up a week and have two
meetings that month.
Staff recommends that the Council set the 2021 meeting schedule and hold to these dates unless a
quorum is not available. By staying with the adopted meeting schedule, this will save on
publication costs for date changes, and prevent scheduling problems for public hearings and other
users of City Hall. Staff is proposing to continue scheduling one monthly workshop with the first
meeting of the month.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the 2021 Workshop and Regular City Council meetings be scheduled as
proposed. The specific dates for the 2021 schedule shall be as follows:
