<br /> <br /> STAFF REPORT <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />TO: Parks & Recreation Commission <br /> <br />FROM: Bryce Shearen, CPRP, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager <br /> <br />DATE: December 16, 2020 <br /> <br />RE: Pioneer Park Community Engagement Presentation <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />Discuss and provide input on the Community Engagement process and preliminary findings with <br />the Resilient Communities Project (RCP) Project Team. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Project Team from the University of Minnesota Resilient Communities Project (RCP) has <br />been working on the implementation of the Community Engagement strategies for Pioneer Park <br />that was outlined in the work that was completed in the summer – Pioneer Park Master Plan: <br />Best Practices for Community Engagement. <br /> <br />The RCP Project Team presented at the December Parks and Recreation Commission meeting <br />and discussed with the Commission on their engagement process and preliminary findings at that <br />time. The presentation can be viewed here. The Team will be giving an updated presentation at <br />the December 16 City Council Workshop to share their findings, identify themes, and answer <br />any questions the Council may have. They have also provided the attached report. <br /> <br />The Fellows have branched out into three teams: Survey Team, Focus Groups & Individual <br />Interviews Team, and Youth Engagement Team. Each Team has provided an update for the <br />Parks & Recreation Commission. <br /> <br />Survey Team <br />The survey has been promoted on Facebook, Instagram, and Nextdoor Social Media platforms <br />and was available on the City website and advertised in the City’s newsletter. A collection of <br />posters and yard signs were placed in key locations throughout the City. All marketing materials <br />contained a scannable QR code that sent the users directly to the survey. <br /> <br />Following the Pioneer Park Master Plan: Best Practices for Community Engagement, the survey <br />was provided in English, Spanish, and Hmong languages that were identified as the top three <br />languages to offer the survey in. <br /> <br />Focus Groups Team <br />The Focus Group Team has been conducting individual and small focus group interviews. Most <br />of the interviews have been done virtually. Specific focus group areas that have been identified
