STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of the City Council

FROM: Bill Dircks, Public Works Director

DATE: January 27, 2021

RE: Purchase of Ford Pickup for Public Works Department

ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED:
Motion to approve the purchase of a Ford F-350 pickup from Midway Ford for $34,565.84.

BACKGROUND:
Truck #111 is included in the 5-year Capital Improvement Plan and is scheduled to be replaced
in 2021. It is a Ford pickup that is used primarily for day-to-day maintenance of lift stations,
water samples, and utility locate requests. The truck is also equipped with a plow and is used to
plow cul-de-sacs during snow plowing events.

Staff worked with Midway Ford, who has the state contract for Ford pickups, and put together
the specifications for a replacement truck that meets the needs of the department. The truck
needs to be ordered immediately as Ford is cutting off state contract orders for the year.

Only the truck is being ordered at this time. Additional equipment, including a plow, will be
researched and ordered at a later date when the truck has been delivered.

SOURCE OF FUNDS:
The replacement of truck #111 is included in the 2021 Capital Improvement Plan and the 2021
Budget. The funding source is the General Capital Improvements Fund (Fund 400). The total
budgeted cost is $50,000 which includes the equipment that will be added in the future.

STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends approving the purchase of a Ford F-350 pickup truck to replace truck #111 at
a cost of $34,565.84.
