STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of the City Council

FROM: Bill Dircks, Public Works Director

DATE: February 10, 2021

RE: Purchase of GMC Pickup for Public Works Department

ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED:
Motion to approve the purchase of a GMC 2500 pickup from Ranger Chevrolet for $30,919.40.

BACKGROUND:
Truck #311 is scheduled to be replaced in 2021. It is a GMC pickup that is used primarily for
park maintenance. The truck is also equipped with a plow and is used for parking lots, trails, and
cul-de-sacs during plowing events.

Staff worked with Ranger Chevrolet in Hibbing, who has the state contract for GMC pickups,
and put together a replacement truck that meets the needs of the department. Just like the Ford
pickup in January, the GMC trucks also have a cutoff date for 2021 so the truck needs to be
ordered right away.

Only the truck is being ordered at this time. The equipment, including a plow, will be researched
and ordered at a later date when the City takes possession of the truck.

SOURCE OF FUNDS:
The replacement of truck #311 is included in the 2021 Capital Improvement Plan and the 2021
Budget. The funding source is the General Capital Improvements Fund (Fund 400). The total
budgeted cost is $48,000. That includes the equipment that will be added in the future.

STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends approving the purchase of a GMC 2500 pickup truck to replace truck #311 at
a cost of $30,919.40.
