The DNR has voluntarily agreed to be more flexible on aquatic
plant control for Savage lake Water Lily management than previously described to the
District and residents. I have attached some information sent to me by Neil Vanderbosch
at the Minnesota ANR. He is proposing that he would support a control program that
creates an offshore open water area of about 1.5 acres with a channel around the island
would be 10 feet wide. Individual properties could apply for permits for chemical
treatment of channel 10 feet wide to the channel or the open water. Permit application fee
is $35 per property up to a maximum of $750. The general aquatic plant management rules
are attached. He would recommend treating the area with a glyphosate product labeled for
aquatic use in late July or sometime in August.
I would like to schedule a meeting to review this material and help the residents organize
a process for developing a plan and submitting the application for this plant control
program. The District is offering to help facilitate this program, but is not in the
position to be the permit applicant or provide any funding for the program.
Please let me know if you could meet at the District office at 7:00 PM on October 22, 30
or 31. I will select a date that all or most people can attend and let you know as soon
as possible. I expect we will meet Eor about one hour.
Cliff
Clifton J.
