8 <br /> SECTION 7 - LEARNING AND EVALUATION PERIOD <br /> <br />Purpose <br /> <br />The learning and evaluation period is an integral part of the selection and hiring process. The <br />objectives of the learning and evaluation period are: <br /> <br />A. To provide for particularly close observation and supervision of an appointed employee's <br />performance. <br /> <br />B. To provide time for evaluation by the employer either to retain an employee whose performance <br />is satisfactory or to reject an employee whose performance in a position does not meet required <br />work standards. <br /> <br />C. To provide time for the employee to determine whether or not a position is to his/her liking and <br />to demonstrate his/her fitness for the position. <br /> <br />Procedure <br /> <br />All regular full-time and regular part-time appointments shall include a learning and evaluation period. <br /> Promotion shall be subject to a learning and evaluation period consistent with the appointed period. If <br />employees who have been promoted are found unsuitable for the work of the positions to which <br />promoted, they may be reinstated to the position and rate of pay of the position from which promoted, <br />so long as a vacancy exists. <br /> <br />Duration - Employees shall be subject to a learning and evaluation period of six months of service after <br />hiring appointment or promotion. At the discretion of the City Administrator, the learning and <br />evaluation period may be extended for an additional six-month period. <br /> <br />Completion - At or near the completion of the six-month period, the respective supervisor shall <br />evaluate the employee's records and performance. If the employee's records and performances are <br />satisfactory, the supervisor shall so certify to the City Administrator. Upon determining that the <br />employee has successfully completed the learning and evaluation period, the City Administrator may <br />designate the employee as a regular employee. If the employee's records and/or performances are <br />found to be unsatisfactory at any time during the learning and evaluation period, the supervisor shall so <br />certify to the City Administrator who may terminate the employee immediately.
