Staff has received 45 responses to the survey from the neighborhood. Playground option #1 with
color palette option #1 receieved the most votes.
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
The majority of the Parks & Recreation Commssion agreed with the survey responses that
playground option #1 offred a variety of unique play features that would be a great enhancement
to this neighborhood park. There were no concerns from Commissioners and expressed that they
support a community build similar to the Spooner Park playground.
UPCOMING STEPS
Following selection of the playground equipment, staff will continue to work the selected vendor
and other suppliers on additional planned upgrades for Rondeau Park. Additional improvements
valued between $25,000 and $174,999 will be considered major purchases and will be made after
obtaining at least two quotes or proposals from qualified vendors and must be reviewed and
approved by the City Council. City Council approval is anticipated for the following items:
• Purchase of poured-in-place rubber surfacing for the playground
• Purchase of open-air picnic shelter
• Contracted site work (trails, concrete, grading, etc.
SOURCE OF FUNDS
Since this park is within a Qualified Census Tract 421.01, staff is proposing to use American
Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Funds for the purchase of playground equipment.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Staff recommends the approval of playground equipment option #1 from St. Croix Recreation for
playground equipment up to $150,000. Staff ensured that this product could be built from a
community build event and the savings from utlilizing a community build could provide for
additional features to be added to the playground area. Since Little Canada does not have this
playground product, staff visited other parks with this playground product and talked to other
cities to see if there were any concerns or issues and only heard positive remarks.
ATTACHMENTS
• Playground Concept Designs
