<br /> <br /> <br />STAFF REPORT <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />TO: Mayor Keis and Members of the City Council <br /> <br />FROM: Corrin Wendell, Community Development Director <br /> Bryce Shearan, Parks & Rec/Community Services Director <br /> <br /> DATE: December 1, 2021 <br /> <br />RE: Ordinance No. 857 – Ordinance Amending Chapter 202 and Chapter 2501 of the <br />Little Canada City Code <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />Consider approval of Ordinance No. 857 – An Ordinance Amending Chapter 202 Planning <br />Commission and Chapter 2501 Park and Recreation Commission for the City of Little Canada <br />City Code with publication of the summary ordinance. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Enhancing Identity and Empowering Community was one of the four strategic directions <br />included in the City's 2019 Strategic Plan. One of the strategic initiatives related to this direction <br />was to increase community engagement by adding a youth member to the City Commissions. <br /> <br />To add a youth commissioner to the Planning Commission and Park and Recreation <br />Commission, Chapter 202 – Planning Commission and Chapter 2501 Park and Recreation <br />Commission, needs to be amended with language that allows for a youth commissioner. After <br />reviewing other surrounding cities that have a youth commissioner, staff has outlined criteria for <br />a Youth Commissioner on both Commissions: <br />• Little Canada resident <br />• Eighteen or under <br />• Enrolled in high school <br />• One-year term expiring July 31 of each year <br />• Voting member of the Commission <br />• Non-paid member of the Commission <br />Attached are the proposed changes to the Ordinance. <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt Ordinance No. 857 – An Ordinance Amending City Code Chapter 202 Planning <br />Commission and Chapter 2501 Park and Recreation Commission, and approve publication of a <br />summary ordinance. <br />
