MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />December 5, 2019 <br />Heights Commons is much larger and may not be as comparable. Chu <br />asked if rental rates and revenue generation could also be studied. <br />Horwath stated he is in favor of this project and thought it would be a <br />huge enhancement to the park. Chair Miller asked about the maintenance <br />costs of a community building. The Community Services Manager stated <br />there would most likely need to be additional resources to help manage <br />and maintain the facility. Schletty mentioned there has been vandalism in <br />a few of the parks and wondered what could be done to secure a <br />community building. The Community Services Manager stated security <br />cameras and increased lighting have been added to many of the buildings, <br />and this has significantly cut down on vandalism. Chu suggested partitions <br />to make smaller rooms so the building could be used more effectively. <br />Horwath made a motion to proceed with researching and developing <br />ideas for a community building. Chu seconded the motion. The <br />motion was unanimously approved. <br /> <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager stated the City Council is hosting the <br />Holiday Party on January 2, which is the same night as the Parks and <br />Recreation Commission Meeting. He suggested rescheduling the meeting <br />to Tuesday, January 7 at 6:30. Chair Miller made a motion to <br />reschedule the meeting to <br />1. Thursday, January 9 at 5:30, or <br />2. Tuesday, January 7 at 6:30, or <br />3. Cancel the meeting if needed. <br />Schletty seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously <br />approved. <br /> <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported youth activities were <br />wrapping up for the year, and registration was open for the basketball <br />clinic, skating lessons, and winter gymnastics. He explained the rinks were <br />being flooded and staff hoped to have them ready before the winter break. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager stated the City was offering adult <br />broomball this year, and basketball on Sunday evenings. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported there was no Market Place <br />Morning Talk in December. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported staff was preparing for <br />Cookies with Santa on December 7. He stated Facebook metrics show that <br />about 900 people were interested in the event this year. The Community <br />Services Manager noted there were about 300 people last year.
