STAFF REPORT

TO: Parks & Recreation Commission

FROM: Claire Hoffman, Recreation Coordinator

DATE: December 3, 2020

RE: Winter Programming

The City of Little Canada is adapting is continually adapting and adjusting as the COVID-19
situation continues to change. Following the Governor’s latest Executive Order and making sure
the safety of participants and staff is the highest priority, Staff have created two new types of
Winter Programming. The first is a take-home craft featuring an elf ornament. People will be
able to purchase the ornament supplies and building instructions from the Parks and Recreation
Catalog for five dollars, and staff will mail them the kit. The craft kid can be ordered from
December 1-20, 2020.

The second type of programming is adult education classes. There are two classes scheduled for
January: “Home Composting” and “Planning a Boundary Waters Trip”. Home Composting will
be led by University of Minnesota Master Gardener Brianna Gohde via Zoom. Planning a
Boundary Waters Trip will be led by Claire Hoffman, who was previously a Boundary Waters
guide. Both classes are $3 and people can register on the Parks and Recreation Catalog.

These programs were published in the December-January newsletter and will be advertised on
social media. Staff is working to create new programs to keep the community engaged, as well as
follow recreation trends. These programs are a great utilization of the new CivicRec registration
software. Staff hopes to continue these types of programs in the future.

Take-Home Elf Craft
