MINUTES
PARKS & REC COMMISSION
NOVEMBER 5, 2020
5
The Community Services Manager stated that hopefully that would be implemented when the
adopt-a-park program is launched. He stated that if someone calls with interest to clean-up a
park, staff does provide certain materials and equipment and the trash is left in bags at the park
noting that staff then picks up that trash.
Commissioner Ray asked for an update on the adopt-a-hydrant program.
The Community Services Manager confirmed that staff is still working to launch that program.
Commissioner Abruzzese stated that she has nothing new to report about Gervais Mill Park. She
commented that she is excited to work on the bike rack subcommittee.
Chair Miller stated that he visited the park he is assigned today and commented on the variety of
activities available from greenspace to basketball. He stated that he noticed a lack of directional
signage on his walk to the park.
Commissioner Ray asked when the fireman’s memorial would be completed.
The Community Services Manager provided an update but did not anticipate the landscaping
being completed this year. He stated that staff is hopeful that the trail sign would be installed
this year.
UPDATES
The Community Services Manager stated that the City is currently registering for youth ice
skating but is still looking for an ice skating instructor. He stated that staff is reviewing other
social distant youth activities, such as small group craft activities. He stated that staff is also
looking at different adult activities that could be offered. He provided an update on the Explore
Little Canada program.
Chair Miller commented that there will be an opening on the Commission as Commissioner
Darling will not be renewing her term.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Amanda Staple
TimeSaver Off Site Secretarial, Inc.
